灶王节 (Zào wáng yé), the Kitchen God Festival,also known as "Little New Year" is celebrated one week before the Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival. The Kitchen God灶神 (Zào shén), also called the “Stove God”, is said to be tasked with the duty to report the affairs of each family to the emperor of gods in heaven. As such, people would offer the Kitchen God food and drink, hoping that he will put in a good word about their family and grant them favourable blessings for the coming Chinese New Year.
